letter from Edward to his cousin Jessie Mandleco

Nov 6, 1932 --
Jessie B. Mandleco, 118 W. 5th St, Rochester, Indiana

my dear cousin: yours received. My sister some years before her death recorded some facts as to our family tree. She does not give the name of our great grandfather Bowers but I copy what she says

"My great grandfather Bowers was a native of the Province of Hasse, Germany

came to America escaping from the British

whether he was a soldier or a prisoner of the British Army, we do not know

he joined the American Army

and after the Revolutionary War he settled in Davidson Co, N.C."

David Bowers, my grandfather was born in Davidson County, N.C. in 1793. David Bowers and Catherine Grimes were married July 21, 1821, Cather Grimes was the daughter of Gottlleff Grimes, born in Davidson County, April 4,1804. Their son, Peter Bowers was born Davidson Co, NC March 22, 1822. Possibly David and Catherine were married in Davidson Co the record of their marriage might mention the name of David's father. I am sorry that I can not give more definite information. i was glad to get your letter. If you should find anything more I would appreciate hearing from you. Very truly, E.W. Bowers, Bruceville, Indiana.
